The
name of the company The North Face means the northern part of the mountain,
which is extremely unfavorable for climbers. The name was inspired by Half
Dome, a granite dome in the famous Yosemite National Park, California, whose
outline is depicted in The North Face logo.
It
sounds ironic, but the story of The North Face began on the
beach. Specifically, in the North Beach area of San Francisco, just 150
feet above sea level. It was here that two hiking enthusiasts, Douglas and
Susie Tompkins, opened a small mountaineering store in 1966. From the
early days, the goal was to provide quality products for those who venture into
the wild and adventure. This is how the main idea of the activity was
born - research creates a continuous connection with nature, inspires to
protect it and transmit this message to future generations.
In
1968, The North Face moved to the other side of the San Francisco Bay, in the
Berkeley area, and began designing and manufacturing equipment and clothing for
climbers. Also, the company began to cooperate with famous mountaineers
and support expeditions to the most remote, still almost untouched corners of
the world - this started a proud tradition that continues to this day. In
the early 1970s, The North Face added ski clothing, and by the end of the
1970s, the company had become the only supplier in the United States to offer a
wide range of high-quality outdoor, ski clothing, sleeping bags, tents and
other products.
The
1990s marked the beginning of an era in which The North Face expanded its range
of outdoor clothing even further. The Half Dome dome logo was increasingly
seen on ultramarathon tracks, mountain trails, and the company introduced
footwear for hiking and trail running.
More
than 50 years after its birth, The North Face continues to provide the highest
quality apparel, footwear and equipment for adventure seekers and active outdoor
enthusiasts. The boundaries of innovation are pushed here to open up
limitless exploration opportunities for others. The North Face continues
to be the top choice for climbers, skiers, snowboarders, endurance runners and
explorers. The North Face casual wear is also popular all over the world.
Never
Stop Exploring.
